Archery as a sport:

Archery is the sport of shooting with a bow and arrow.  There are several forms of archery as well as different types of archery equipment.

 The most popular forms of archery:

*Bow Hunting (feral animals)

*Target Archery (shooting at round paper Targets either indoor or outdoor)

*Field Archery (shooting at feral animal coloured vinyl targets or 3D feral animals, in a bush setting.)

 

There are also several types of bows available:

*Compound Bows (modern style with cables and wheels/cams).        
*Long Bows (traditional), and
*Recurve Bows (as used in the olympics.)

 

The Darling Downs Field Archers Inc. (DDFA)

10 enthusiastic archers founded the DDFA in 1978.  We currently have about 80 members, including a number of families with young children. Facilities at the Club include two x 20 target ranges a 3d Feral Animal Range and a 2nd 3D Range underway, catering for various shoot formats, a clubhouse with flushing toilets, hot showers, canteen and BBQ area.
The Club is proud of its safety record and is proactive in ensuring that all facilities meet the stringent requirements of the Australian Bowhunters Association Inc. (ABA) to which the club is affiliated.  The Club has a policy of constantly upgrading our Club facilities to meet the needs of Club members and encourageing the social side of the sport.

Most forms of archery are catered for excluding crossbows.

As indicated previously, the Club is fully affiliated with the Australian Bowhunters Association Inc. (ABA).

ABA is recognised worldwide and is further affiliated with other National and International bodies such as the International Field Archery Association (IFAA), World Bowhunting Association (WOBA).

 Club Location:

The Club is located approximately 10 minute’s drive north of Toowoomba CBD (refer Web Site map).

 NB: Due to the recent floods Access to the Range is from the Bedford St Dump Entrance

 

Membership:

The Club charges a membership fee(Refer to Website Membership Schedule Page) and a small fee for each shoot (currently $7.00).  Members may use the ranges at other times for a nominal charge.

Included in the Membership is a Public liability insurance cover for all field archery and Bowhunting activities carried out, full ABA Membership and the ability to participate in all 3DAAA , ABA and all other endorsed archery activities.

The Club also offers a free 3 Month probationary membership (shoot fees apply) that allows people to try the sport of archery before committing to full membership.

Shoots:

Club shoots are generally held on the 1st and 3rd Sundays each month.

Plus some addittional fun shoots during the year. 

Members may also attend all, Australia wide, endorsed ABA Branch shoots, that are usually held each month. A grading system applies which is recognised worldwide. Members are eligible to compete in state, national and international competitions once they have been graded and meet applicable competition requirements.

 Have a Go/ Instruction:

 Visitors interested in trying out the sport of archery can come along and try it out using Club supplied bows and arrows (Probationary Membership applies). 

Persons wishing to have a go should, note one the nominated contact Names, and then come along at 8.00am on the 3rd Sunday of each month and basic archery introduction Instruction will be provided free of charge.

Bowhunting proficiency Instruction, including NSW R Class licensing courses, are carried out on a regular basis by Qualified Hunting Instructors at the Range.
